Still awaiting a response to your adoption enquiry?
PetRescue supports more than 950 independent rescue groups, shelters and pounds nationwide. Your pet enquiry emails go directly to these groups.
Most of these groups are small volunteer-run organisations, so the application process can sometimes take time. Some can be slow with responses, depending on volunteer availability and the volume of enquiries.
To give yourself the best chance of receiving a timely response, please check that you have completed the enquiry/application steps as outlined in each pet’s profile. These steps can vary from group to group.
Please also be sure to check your spam/junk email folders, as sometimes email replies from rescue groups can end up here.
Due to limited resources, some groups may give priority to completed applications, and some may only contact successful applicants.
If you are still awaiting a response, please send the relevant rescue group a friendly reminder to let them know you are still keen to adopt. Each pet listed has the name and contact details of the group caring for them at the bottom of their profile information.
Response rates do vary from group to group. If you’re still not getting a response from a particular rescue group, please don’t give up your search - there are thousands of homeless pets looking for a loving new home.
You can find a full listing of rescue organisations in our Rescue Directory.
Major shelters such as the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League generally have opening hours over the holiday period, so attending a shelter in person is another great way to add a rescue pet to your family.
