Our Safe and Sound Pounds Team heads to G2Z
The PetRescue team at G2Z!
The G2Z National Summit is a bi-annual event that features national and international speakers who share their success stories and innovative strategies to reduce the killing of rescue pets.
And as bronze sponsors of the biggest rescue industry event, we were beyond thrilled and excited to be a part of the 8th National G2Z Summit! Not only did our trusty team spread positive vibes through the halls, but also cheered on fellow rescue advocates while increasing awareness of our Safe and Sound Pounds message!
So without further ado, here are the highlights of everything that the PetRescue team got up to at G2Z:
There was a PetRescue Pawesome Ideas Board!
Over 100,000 pets are killed in Australian pounds every year. We’re determined to dock this figure, and a big part of this goal includes collaborating with our amazing community.
Kelly Stihec from Cat Adoption Foundation was our winner for Pawesome Ideas
We put up our very own pawesome ideas board to encourage G2Z delegates to put their thinking caps on and hop on board the sustainable solutions train in an effort to shake up the 150-year-old pound system.
And we weren’t disappointed! #TeamRescue dutifully came through and filled our little board with their big hairy & audacious ideas! The ideas focused on spotlighting animal welfare issues by presenting modern alternatives that give all pets an equal chance to find a loving home.
Our Co-founder JB hosted a wellness session
In a bid to encourage self-care and mindful meditation at the action-packed weekend, our co-founder and bonafide yogi, JB, held two holistic wellness sessions, open to all delegates attending G2Z!
Not only did the attendees slip into their yoga pants and get stretchin’, but early risers also got a chance to soak in some sun and sand at a wellness beach walk the next day with the PetRescue team!
Our Co-founder Vickie was a judge for the CARA Awards!
2019 Rescue Awards Judges: Nell Thompson, Dr Anne Fawcett, Dr Michael O'Donoghue, Vickie Davy, Bondi Vet Dr Alex Hynes, Cathy Beer patting Yoshi. Jo Lyons Photography
Our co-founder Vickie was on the judging panel for the JetPets Companion Animal Rescue Awards! A bunch of incredibly deserving organisations including PetRescue member rescue groups, shelters and pounds were recognised and celebrated for their commendable rescue work.
The winners walked away with cash donations, retail vouchers, and other exciting goodies! Click here to see a list of all the amazing winners!
We cheered on #TeamRescue!
The highlight of this event was definitely getting to meet, greet, and give a well overdue hug of appreciation to some of the most incredible people in the community, including our member rescue organisations.

Not only did we soak in all the brilliant suggestions from the ideas board to help disrupt the dysfunctional pound system, but we were also in awe of all the informative and inventive ideas presented at the summit.
Our Program Coordinator Laurel with one of our youngest supporters, the incredible Tayla Gallo!
By the end of G2Z, we were happy campers, extremely proud to be in an industry that believes in advocacy through action and shares a collective goal to create a safer future for rescue pets in Australia!
Have a pawesome idea that could disrupt the dysfunctional pound system, increase adoptions, and create change in the animal welfare world? We’re all ears! Our ideas board is now digital so send through your best ideas to info@petrescue.org.au.
