At what age does a puppy/kitten become classed as a dog/cat in the PetRescue search results?

On our website, we use search filters so interested pet-lovers can pinpoint the kind of pet they are looking to adopt. One of these filters distinguishes pets by age - puppy or kitten/dog or cat/senior - this so that website users can narrow down their search and find the perfect pet at the perfect age.

We class kittens as being 6 months of age or less, and puppies as 8 months of age or less. Enabling this filter will only return results with pets that fall within that age bracket. For seniors, a dog is only listed as ‘senior’ at the discretion of the rescue group managing the listing. This is due to the expected age of different dog breeds varying so widely.
