About Torro Upchurch
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html
Torro, the quintessential elderly gentleman in personality and distinguished Westie looks. Described by his foster parents as ‘quiet, contemplative and reflective’, this darling boy loves being around humans and loves a good cuddle on the couch, even if he needs some help getting off afterwards. He is equally happy to spend time exploring his surrounds independently, in fact he is quite inquisitive for an old man and loves a bit of stimulation and a play, you know, to keep his brain young. He loves his walks and whilst he usually does a daily 1-2 kilometers in the peaceful surrounds, he would go for longer if his joints would allow him. Torro, proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks and has learnt how to sit and stay. He is fully house trained, eats his food with gentlemanly manners, sleeps through the night in his own bed and travels beautifully in a car.
Torro has some marks of maturity, including reduced vision and hearing and stiffness for which he receives daily medication for. He is also not the biggest fan of other canine and other animal friends and can be quite reactive towards them. Thus it’s best if he goes for quiet walking routes. He has been doing some training in this regard and if far enough away, he can be distracted with treats or in some cases he may walk quickly past them so as to avoid them.
Torro will do best in a home with teenagers and adults who are willing to adore and be adored, share couch time and cuddles, and take Torro out for a daily stroll. He would love access to a yard where he can zoom, sniff and chill. He would prefer a home where his humans were home more often than not and will need a family that will continue to manage his arthritis through daily supplements.
West Highland terriers are known for their loyalty and spunk and Torro is a model of his kind. Do you have a space on your couch to share with his delightful gentleman?
Thank you to Christopher of Christopher Fotobooks for the fantastic photos of Torro.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Scheduled to have his dental soon. Contact allergy. Stiff and some osteoarthritis.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. We look forward to receiving your application.
