About Bruce and Casper
This dynamic duo are a special bonded pair, looking for a home together.
Bruce is a 2yo shepherd dingo mix, surrendered through no fault of his own. He is a friendly, energetic boy who loves to run and would make an excellent jogging partner or could learn to run beside a bike. He is a relatively quiet dog but will bark at strangers if they come to the front door or gate. He loves water and enjoys paddling and splashing at the beach or in the dam. He loves to play and chase Casper who is his best friend in the world. He walks well on lead and is good in the car.
Casper is a 4 year old Siberian husky, she is a gentle, sweet girl who loves a cuddle or an ear scratch just as much as she likes to run. She is energetic and like Bruce needs lots of exercise and would make a great jogging companion, but afterwards will happy snooze at your feet or have a belly rub. Casper is an exceptionally quiet dog. She is good in the car, but needs some practice getting used to long trips. She walks beautifully on lead but can get a bit too excited about birds and cats.
Both Bruce and Casper have some basic housetraining but their new owners will need to take them both for regular toilet breaks to start with and continue their training if they are going to sleep indoors. They are also happy sleeping outdoors.
Bruce and Casper are very boisterous and high energy dogs, and both weigh over 20kg. For this reason they would be best in a home with no kids, or kids over 12 only please.
Bruce and Casper are both good with other dogs large and medium dogs when introduced slowly, but are not suitable to go to dog parks and can be reactive around strange/new dogs. They could potentially live with another large or medium breed dog with careful, slow introductions, or would be great together in a home with no existing dogs.
Bruce and Casper cannot live with cats, birds, pocket pets, small dogs or livestock. They need to be monitored carefully on walks due to prey drive around small animals and cannot be let off lead outside their own yard.
They are not suitable to live in an apartment and need a large backyard with great fencing.
Fencing requirements:
You will need ONE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial can begin.
- A 1.8m colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line
- OR A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m). You do not need a dog enclosure if you have secure 1.8m fencing.
For more advice on fencing see our website: www.sydneydingorescue.com.au
Animal rescue is considered essential. SFDR can still come to you for meet and greets, yard checks and animal adoptions. We have volunteers in Canberra and New South Wales and can come to you even if you we are not in your local government area. Distance is not an issue when we are looking for the perfect homes for our dingoes. Please note we have COVID safety measures in place.
Adoption details
Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Goulburn shelter or their foster carers' home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We are happy to meet new prospective owners anywhere in NSW or the ACT.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
