About Bushy - Dingo
Looking for a cuddly companion with abounding energy, intelligence and a loyal nature? Look no further than pawsome pup Bushy!
Hi my name is Bushy, I'm a smart, sweet, affectionate pup looking for a home with another dog or dingo to play with.
I love to snuggle in your lap and get ear rubs and pats- I'm super affectionate. But don't let my love of cuddles fool you, I'm also a cheeky, playful young dingo full of energy who loves to run and romp around with my friends and going on adventures. Like all young dingoes I need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
Bushy is great with people and loves to run and play. He is fully grown at around 20kg and would love a home with a dog/dingo friend or two of a similar size to play with and keep him company! ( no dogs under 10kg). He is extremely social and great with other dogs and dingoes.
He is a very energetic pup and can be boisterous and rough when he plays. For this reason, he needs a home without kids or with kids over 10 only (he is a boisterous boy and might bowl over younger kids with his enthusiasm). He loves tug toys, squeaky toys and treat balls.
Bushy is toilet trained but after living mostly outside at the rescue, he may need a refresher on training. He has good leash manners and loves a car ride, either in the back seat or in a crate.
He is very intelligent, food motivated and eager to learn. Being a dingo however he is not suitable to let off leash except in a securely fenced area and he is unlikely to ever learn reliable recall (come when called) off the leash.
Bushi is not suitable to live with cats, pocket pets, birds or live stock. He needs a large yard and cannot live in an apartment.
Fencing requirements:
Bushi is a medium content dingo with some dog genetics (most likely kelpie).
You will need ONE OR MORE of the following BEFORE an adoption trial can begin.
- A 1.8m colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line
- A 1.8m fence (of any sturdy material) with a 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing (see here: https://sanctuarysos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cat-proof-fence-barrier-to-keep-cats-safe-in-the-garden.jpg ).
- A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m)
For more advice on fencing see our website: www.sydneydingorescue.com.au.
Animal rescue is considered essential. SFDR can still come to you for meet and greets, yard checks and animal adoptions. We have volunteers in Canberra and New South Wales and can come to you even if you we are not in your local government area. Distance is not an issue when we are looking for the perfect homes for our dingoes. Please note we have COVID safety measures in place.

Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
It takes a very special owner to provide a home for a dingo and adopting saves two lives, the one you adopt and the next dingo we can save now we have a free spot at our shelter.
We rehome a few types of dingo, what we typically call “low content” and “high content” dingoes. We have both pups and adults looking for homes and their profiles can be viewed here: https://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/10730/
Adoption fees range from $500 to $300 and cover desexing, vaccinations and microchipping.
A low content dingo typically has one parent who is a dog or a large amount of dog genetics. Low content dingoes are often called “dingo hybrids” or “dingo crosses”. Low content dingoes typically require a 1.8m fence OR a dog enclosure/run.
A high content dingo typically has two dingo parents or a large amount of dingo genetics. High content dingoes are often known as “pure dingoes”. High content dingoes have much stricter fencing requirements due to their climbing ability. You will need ONE OR MORE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial for a high content dingo can begin.
- A 2.2m colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line
- A 1.8m fence (of any sturdy material) with a 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing
- A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m)
- Mesh, concrete or similar around the base of the fence may also be required
Some manufacturers of pre-made dog enclosures include:
https://www.vebopet.com.au/dog/dog-run-fence
https://www.spotonpetenclosures.com.au/shop/listings/pet-enclosures/
Another option is using construction fencing style panels from bunnings or weldedmesh sheets and posts.
A yard check is required for all adoptions and we also have a two week trial period to ensure every adoption is a good fit.
