About Humphrey Celestino

Happy Humphrey is a sweet senior who is looking for companionship in his retirement years. He is a slightly bigger boy, possibly crossed with a corgi. A friendly and sweet boy, Humphrey has proven in care to be reliable around the house and happy to potter on his own or with his people. While not 100% convinced of the dog door in his foster home, Humphrey knows to ask to go out and has been an exemplary toileting citizen during his stay. Humphrey tends to do his own thing, but is fine with his foster dog siblings and follows their lead to learn the routines of the house. He is friendly and sweet with the household humans, but hasn’t been tested with little people or cats. His foster carers suspect he was previously an outdoor dog, as he tends to make a beeline for the yard and doesn’t gravitate to indoor beds, preferring a mat in the laundry as his sleeping place. Humphrey has limited experience on lead and is now learning about the role of this strange attachment in his new life.
Humphrey is slowing down and showing some of the wear and tear of age. A recent trip to the vet confirmed that Humphrey is deaf, but that doesn’t stop him from being a loving companion. Although he is fine being left on his own from time to time, Humphrey is quite the creative digger, so probably not an ideal match if you value your prized garden beds.
Humphrey will do well with someone who is around most of the time and ready to give him the love and companionship he deserves. This venerable older man asks little of his people, and will be happy with company, a garden in which to sniff and sun himself, and an occasional opportunity to get out for a sniff. He would be happy with or without a canine companion. Humphrey is pretty chilled and his only special request is a home with minimal steps as he finds these a bit difficult to navigate. If you are looking for an easy, friendly and low energy friend, Humphrey is waiting for your adoption application.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Weight: 14kg
Humphrey is nearly deaf. Some SNS in eyes bilaterally.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. We look forward to receiving your application.
