About Candy Celestino
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Sweet Candy came in as a stray, so we don’t have any background on her life to date. In foster care, she has proven to be a happy girl, polite and easy going with her foster dog sibling and friendly with her human carers. Candy walks very nicely on lead and travels well in the car. Around the house, she has learned the rules quickly and is happy to take herself outside to toilet, as long as she has access. Candy is a good girl, who sleeps quietly through the night in her own bed in her carer’s room. She is fine when left alone for short periods, showing no stress when her carers return home. Candy enjoys the company of her people, but is not inspired by intense play or toys.
While Candy is generally polite and a good patient at the vet’s, she does get a bit worried around men and sometimes tries to create space for herself by barking or jumping. This tends to settle once she knows there is no threat, and Candy reverts to her polite self fairly quickly. With calm introductions and more exposure to men, these behaviours are likely to diminish. Candy came into care with ear infections and some sore teeth, which our vets are attending to.
Candy will likely do well in a quiet home with her human around most of the time to give her the love and affection she deserves. Although Candy gets along well with her foster dog sibling, we are going to test how she is with dogs she does not know. She will enjoy a chance to get out and about for a modest daily walk and to check out the local neighbourhood. Candy is new into our care and we will update this profile as we get to know her better.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. We look forward to receiving your application.
