About Spike - 8 Year Old Fox Terrier
Looking for a cuddly companion who will make you laugh? Spike is for you!
Spike is the easiest houseguest you could ask for! He’s not a barker, he isn’t overly concerned about noises, he will potter around curiously investigating things and chill out on his own if you’re busy. Spike loves to have one person to really connect with, though he will take pats from anyone offering them!
Spike is the kind of dog who would like to be inside with you all the time, as it’s what he has been used to. He will return this favour by being very well mannered with toileting and non-destructive inside. Even when you aren’t home he will just chill out inside, but he will do some funny zoomies when you get home to show how excited he is to see you! He isn’t used to being on his own full time hours but would be fine with part time workers.
Spike didn’t really go out on walks in his last home, so the only thing he really needs to work on is walking politely on lead. He doesn’t have high exercise needs, but when he gets outside he is very excited by all the smells and sights and can surprise you with his strength for all 6kg of him! Regular walks to explore and sniff would be right up his alley and help him build on the improvement he has already made. He would love a backyard to chase lizards in, or a regular quiet walking spot with lots of smells outside the home.
He also loves the car and will jump in with no hesitation. He loves to join you on the bed for snuggles, but once it’s time for sleeping, he will take himself off to his own bed and sleep through the night.
Spike is a pretty healthy guy, but he does suffer from dry eye and will always need daily eye drops, he is so polite when he needs to get them though! He had a few teeth removed earlier in life, likely due to a poor diet in his young years, so he would benefit from someone who can be diligent about his dental care. He does shed a bit of hair which is pretty common for his breed, and a good daily brush will go a long way.
Spike has lived with other dogs, but he really is the perfect human companion, and his ideal home would be one on one with his person soaking up all the love. He is great with the 10-year-old human in his foster home and doesn’t seem at all bothered by excited kid noise and movement.
We don’t know if Spike has met cats but he is a bit too interested in the pet rats in his foster home (unsurprising for his breed), so pockets pets are best avoided.
Spike is in foster care in Newcastle area, NSW and he is not available for interstate adoption. His adoption fee is $500, and he is desexed, vaccinated and treated for worms.
