About Ruby
Ruby is a 12 year old Labrador x who lost her elderly owners due to them going into a home.
Ruby, what a beautiful sweet girl she is.
26kg Labrador mix breed.
Ruby loves the beach
Ruby sits quietly on her bed inside and sleeps amongst her toys while I work.
She seems content to be by herself during the day and sleeps quietly if I have to leave her to go out for an event or function even at night.
In saying that she loves loves loves to be around her human and would be near you all day if she could. Wherever I go she wants to be and could lay on her back all day and get pats.
She is so sweet and gentle. Someone would need to be understanding of her anxiety, she is beautiful and very trusting but we only do very small intimate outings as to not overwhelm her. I think she would be happy with just her daily walks and staying at home In her safe place and exploring.
Walks / Play time - She loves her walks twice a day and that is when she does her pee's and poo's. She loves to play tug (you will never win) and chase her toys if you throw them. She loves to roll in the grass and explore and she loves to sun tan when it’s not too hot.
She is good on the lead but does want to go and see every dog that crosses her path.
Ruby is toilet trained.
Other dogs - She is generally friendly with other dogs and if you give her a one on one, slow introduction in an open space and they can get to know each other she is very calm and normally just leaves them be after a few moments. However she can give a little growl and has had a chomp at some specific dogs she doesn’t like. She also wants to play / sniff and go see every dog at the park or when she is walking and doesn’t seem to have great manners on lead as she will bark when she can’t get her own way or can’t get close to them.
New people - at this stage she loves everyone although she will do a nervous bark at first meeting. She is very nervous and shy but also really really wants attention and love. She has met a few children and seems to be well behaved around them. Ruby has lived with children.
For the first couple of days she was stressed and for over a week she hid in the corner and wouldn’t come near me. After a few weeks she has come out of her shell and absolutely loves people and attention. She still does flinch sometimes when I touch her or other people do so seems like there is some trauma she has experienced. She is on anxiety meds but these will take a few months to kick in.
She is terrified of fire works and can sometimes get scared of loud noises or the wind. We haven’t been through a storm together but I expect this will terrify her. She does bark when she gets anxious or scared but normally she will calm down within a few minutes with some reassurance and pats and she is not aggressive at all.
Ruby also barks when she wants to play or is out playing and frolicking. So while we are running around at the park she is barking her head off and scaring all her new friends who then won't play with her 🤣
Manners - She has learnt to sit and also has pretty good recall of her name (when there are no distractions) but I don't let her off lead as I haven't tested this with people and other dogs around. She eats all her food and is on a bit of a diet, very food motivated. She is not food aggressive and I quite often move her bowl while she is eating and hand feed her and she is gentle.
